General Information
1. What age groups can participate in field hockey?
We welcome players aged 5 to 16, with divisions separated in groups U7, U9, U12 & U16.
2. When does the season start and end?
Our main season runs from March to September, with breaks during the school holidays. There is also optional clinics and events throughout the year.
U7 & U9 – 6th March to 7th August
U12 & U16 – 7th March to 29th August
3. Where and when are games held?
All games take place at Mackay Hockey Fields - 2 Harney Street, SOUTH MACKAY.

4. Am I able to try Hockey prior to registering?
Yes, we hold ‘Come & Try’ afternoons at the start of the year prior to the season. In 2026, these will be held every Friday afternoon in the month of February 2026. For more information on our Come & Try events, follow our Facebook page or view the Come & Try section on our Home page
5. How do I register to play?
Registration opens online via our Registration page. Early sign-up is encouraged to secure your spot!
PLEASE NOTE: 2026 Registrations are not currently open. If you are intersested in playing the 2026 Season, please complete the 2026 Expression of Interest Form to stay up to date and receive notification when registrations open.
6. What equipment is required?
Players need a stick, shin guards (compulsory), mouthguard (optional – highly recommended), and appropriate footwear. We offer starter kits for new players who register at our Come & Try Days who have never played before.
Face Masks are also compulsory for U12 & U16 age groups when playing a Short Corner. We recommend speaking to your coach/delegate prior to the season to confirm if you are required to purchase a Face Mask.

8. Who do I contact for team or registration questions?
Email us at mackayschoolhockey@mackayhockey.com.au. Once teams have been finalised at the start of the season, you will receive contact details for your Coach & Delegate. Delegate details can also be found on the Contact page
9. Is there a newsletter or social media page I can follow?
Yes! We’re active on Facebook. Follow us here to stay up to date.
Teams & Coaching
10. My school doesn't have a team, am I still able to play?
Of Course! Hockey is for everyone. Even if your school doesn’t have a team, we’ll find one for you—because every player deserves to be part of the action!
11. How are teams formed?
Teams are grouped by age and school at the start of the season. Early sign-up is encouraged to ensure a smooth start to the season.
12. I have a friend playing too, can I request to be in a team with them?
Yes! We do our best to place friends together in the same team. However, please understand that this isn’t always possible, as team numbers depend on registrations - but rest assured, every player will still have a great team experience.

13. Are there training programs or clinics available?
Yes—seasonal clinics are offered for players, coaches & umpires. Details are posted on our Facebook page.
Events & Community
14. Does the association host carnivals or special events?
We host an annual U11 Carnival. Other special events that we may host thorughout the year will be posted to our Facebook page.
15. How can I get involved as a volunteer or sponsor?

Fees & Policies
16. What are the registration fees and what do they cover?
Fees vary by age group and include insurances with Hockey Australia & Hockey QLD. 2026 Fees will be set at the AGM on Tuesday, 16th December 2025.

18. What is the refund policy if a player withdraws?
